Myrtle herself possesses a fierce vitality and desperately looks for a way to improve her situation. Mr Wilson, George, loves and idealizes Myrtle, his wife, and is devastated by her affair with Tom. He is consumed with grief with Myrtle is killed. They don't fit into the setting of the filthy rich. They are middle class and certainly do not fit into the life of the entitled and rich.
