Gatsby responds, "That's my affair" Why does Gatsby give that answer and why is not it an appropriate reply?

Gatsby is telling Nick about his past..... and yet, he doesn't appreciate questions he considers personal. From his reaction, we can infer that his "business" is something he cannot talk about.
