Great Gatsby Chapter 5

Daisy is overwhelmed by Gatsby's success. She had been talked out of waiting for him when he was a poor soldier because he wouldn't be able to take care of her in the manner in which she was accustomed. Rather than wait for her love to return to her, she was talked in to marrying Tom. Now she sees that if she had waited he would have been able to take care of her. So while she is happy for him and his success, she is also sad for herself and what she gave up by following the family expectations and marrying Tom.
