In the middle of the novel, Gatsby achieves his dream. This raises an interesting question: Is dreaming the dream better than achieving the dream?

Gatsby's dream proves to never have been real. The girl he fell in love with was an illusion.... an illusion he couldn't let go of, even after the illusion turned her back on him. Thus, for Gatsby, the illusion was better than the dream.
