Knowing Tom as we do, how can we account for his comment about being "old-fashioned" and "women run[ning] around too much these days to suit [him]"?

In this case, Tom's opinion that woman need to be old-fashioned applies directly to the woman he is married to. Daisy is to stay home, act respectably, and raise their child. Tom, on the other hand, is a hypocrite, as shown in his relationship and dealings with Myrtle. Unfortunately, he doesn't place the high standards expected from his wife on the wife of another man.
