I'd like to know if in this excerpt from The Great Gatsby Daisy is staring at something which is between Gatsby and her husband, or if she is staring alternately at Gatsby and at her husband:

I glanced at Daisy who was staring terrified between Gatsby and her husband and at Jordan who had begun to balance an invisible but absorbing object on the tip of her chin.
