The scenic method

What are the advantages of the scenic method?
The "scenic method" is basically a writing style that lets readers interpret the text indirectly. This means that the reader comes to his or her own conclusions through a visual or scenic means painted by the author. Consider this quote from Ch. 3,
“Almost at the moment when Mr. Gatsby identified himself a butler hurried toward him with the information that Chicago was calling him on the wire. He excused himself with a small bow that included each of us in turn.”
Here the reader can interpret a certain "shadiness" to Gatsby's business dealings. It beings to mind the sense of the mob or Chicago underworld.
