Toward the end of the party, we have unflattering description of husbands and wives and also the drunk who has crashed his car. What is Fitzgeald's deeper message to us here?

In essence..... money can't buy happiness. The wealthy suffer from the same problems as everyone else.

The "Roaring Twenties" were going to come to a painful, abrupt end. Fitzgerald knew that the "good times" were not going to last, and that the "morning after" was gonna be a bad one.
