Nick describes the partygoers as vacuous "moths" flocking around Gatsby's lights. Most people had not been invited. The chaos of the party extends to the parking lot outside Gatsby's mansion. Owl eyes claims he has been drunk for a week and that he really doesn't know how to drive. Then he claims he was not even driving. These guests are really just superficial vultures of Gatsby's hospitality. Most of them have little depth of character and even fewer morals.
