Does Offred fight or survive? Who is she similar to in 1984?
Offred really doesn't fight to survive. She merely does what she is expected to. "Fighting to survive" in this dystopia does not really come into play here. People simply do what is expected. They are complacent because there simply isn't any room to do otherwise. Winston too knows the futility of fighting. His relationship with Julia may symbolize a rebellion of sorts but, in the end, Winston knows it is "folly" and futile. There is, in both, stories the idea of resistance. For both Winston and Offred, resistance offers nothing to their survival; it really only remains a vague idea of a future that they will not be a part of.
