What point is Awtood making of authoritarian rule and theocracy?

Atwood is careful to make the point that theocracy and fascism are closely related. Religion is easily perverted to suite authoritarian and patriarchal rule. Parts of the Bible, in the book's case, are taken out of context to support a fascist state where misogyny is taken to an extreme level. Women's bodies and their reproductive systems are made commodities to be distributed by men in power.
