Why was Offred afraid to ask Luke how he really felt about her losing her job?

In my opinion, Offred was afraid to ask because she was afraid he was happy about the changes. If women weren't allowed to own property... their husbands were. In fact, this meant their husbands had complete control and ownership of everything.... even their wives. Offred didn't ask because she didn't want to know.
