The Hill We Climb
What do you notice
In the poem what do you notice
In the poem what do you notice
The point in history at which this poem was delivered to the world at the inauguration of Joe Biden is identified within the poem as “the era of just redemption.” This assertion alludes to the protests over the summer of 2020 against excessive use of force by the police in the name of systemic racism. The long-delayed recognition by the majority of Americans of the very real existence of this systemic discrimination stimulated equally long-delayed reckoning the culture of racism which has whitewashed history and elevated traitors to the lofty sphere of national heroes. The redemption of this dark underbelly of America too long denied or rejected or overlooked or revised is at hand and must not be further delayed or “interrupted by intimidation” lest the blunders of the past continue to be passed on as unredeemed burden placed upon future generations.
