While you're reading the book, find places where he does this and make notes of it in a notebook. Remember to put the page number so you can use it as citations in your essay
Step three:
Write your essay. I'll give you an outline:
INTRO
Quote (Optional): It's kind of overused to lead in with a quote but it does work. Choose a quote that maybe has a moral or that is kind of like the main idea of your whole essay. It should be relevant and from the book and not need much explaining.
Topic sentence: In "The Hitchhiker's Guide" by Douglas Adams...
Body: Summarize the topic sentences (aka main ideas) of the following paragraphs
Thesis statement: Lead into the next paragraph
PARAGRAPH ONE
Topic sentence: Main idea of paragraph
Body: Go in depth on what you said in the topic sentence
Thesis statement: Lead into the next paragraph
PARAGRAPH TWO
Topic sentence: Main idea of paragraph
Body: Go in depth on what you said in the topic sentence
Thesis statement: Lead into the next paragraph
PARAGRAPH THREE
Topic sentence: Main idea of paragraph
Body: Go in depth on what you said in the topic sentence
Thesis statement: Lead into the next paragraph

Topic sentence: Main idea of paragraph
Body: Go in depth on what you said in the topic sentence
Thesis statement: Lead into the next paragraph
CONCLUSION
Summarize all your ideas and maybe say why you liked this book, how it connects to a central moral and/ or the quote you chose. Say wheter or not you think it is important that everyone read this book. Don't add any new ideas in conclusions. Imagine a conclusion like tying a ribbon around a gift. The intro is the wrapping paper, the body is the box, and the conclusion is the ribbon.
