Before Thorin dies, why do you think he forgives Bilbo? Why is this important?

Thorin realizes the special Hobbit that Bilbo is. Thorin tells Bilbo that he wants them to be friends again, "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world."
