How does Bilbo manage to sneak up on the trolls?

Being a Hobbit and light on his feet (and considered a good thief) , Bilbo sneaks up on the three trolls to pick their purse. They actually catch him because their purse squeaks. While they argue about what to do, Bilbo sneaks away.
