What role did luck play in the rescue of the dwarves?

If you are talking about Bilbo's escape from the spiders..... it was lucky that he woke up on time to escape.It was also lucky that the spider left a section of webbing handing down, which enabled Bilbo to access the branches and save the dwarves. Note, it also helped that he had his sword.
