Smaug lives in the Lonely Mountain. He has guarded a treasure of jewels, etc., for years and they have lodged in his skin making that skin nearly impenetrable.

Smaug live in the dwarves original home in the lonely mountain. He lives there because dragons love gold and the dwarves made thousands pieces of gold.
