Why do the dwarves finally relent and make there own way down the dark tunnel to snags lair

Dark tunnel down to snails lair, that the dwarves make.

The dwarves have no other choice. The exit has been buried by an avalanche. Thus, they have to follow Bilbo down the tunnel.
