Tsetse flies are significant because their presence was a childhood memory. The tsetse flies were familiar.
I had not been back to Africa since I was twelve years old, but when you have encountered Africa in childhood, it becomes a section of your mind. I had felt warm river sand on my bare feet and had smelled crocodiles. I knew the crispy sensation of tsetse flies crawling in my hair.Source(s)
