Miss Stapleton is deceitful and manipulative. She does, however, attempt to redeem herself by warning Sir Henry to leave the moor before his death.

Miss Lyons, on the other hand, is easily manipulated and deceived. Her unhappiness makes her the perfect character for Mr. Stapleton's plans. She falls in love with him and does anything he asks.
