It is inscribed 'To James Mortimer, M.R.C.S from his friends of the C.C.H.' Holmes must deduce certain things. as the C.C.H. is a hospital, (Charing Cross London). There are small teeth marks on the stick like from a small dog.

It was a thick walking stick with a silver band around it,on which it was written - to James Mortimer ,MRCS,from his friends of the C.C.H.1884
