Why do you suppose the author decides to call Mr. Frankland's house Lafter Hall?

In chapter eight, we get introduced to a new character named Mr. Frankland. Why does Sir Arther Conan Doyle, the author, decide to name Mr. Frankland's house Lafter Hall?

I think the name is ironic. There is nothing funny about Mr. Frankland. He is not a nice man: he even disowned his own daughter.
