Bernarda is the most effective character in the play, she;

1.) stays constant and unchanging

2.) considers herself superior and plans her actions using antagonism which enables her to be a consummate manipulator

3.) she is protective of her daughters, also seen as a type of dictator

4.) she is complete control of the play's action
