Describe the abuse that Joe suffered under Ethel's care ? How did this effect him ?

Ethel often hit Joe with out reason and made him stand on a dark basement in one foot for hours at a time. She would tether him with a rope in the basement and leave him for hours. Joe consequently became a very angry person.
