Explain how a neutralization test is used to determine a vaccine's efficacy

Blood serum from a newly vaccinated child was mixed with live poliovirus. If the method worked, the child's blood would block the poliovirus and protect the cells. If it didn't work, an infection would occur, which in turn, would allow the doctors to microscopically examine the damage.
