Why did dr. golde start paying for hotels and expensive flights for office visits?

Moore gets tired of travelling so far just so Golde could get tissue samples. Golde becomes desperate so he offersto put him up in a luxury hotel if he'd just come back to UCLA for follow up exams. Obviously Golde is hiding something!

He wanted to get blood from a family member because she thought she was getting a cancer test when really they were using hers to do more research and so the doctor started paying the hotels so she would come and not he could extend his research.
