What is the actual antagonist in the story? So what is the conflict?

THis is difficult. Both men are their own protagonist and antagonist. Some critics feel that, as the defender of his land, Ulrich von Gradwitz, can be considered the protagonist while Georg Znaeym ,.....the inheritor of the quarrel and the tireless game-snatcher and raider of the disputed border-forest, is the antagonist.
