Many colours are symbolic of something in this story. The white cat, for example, is a harbinger of death, a messenger from the other side. The metaphorical quality of the white cat penetrates deeper than a mere symbolic stand-in for the Grim Reaper. Grandma said that the cat's eyes were pink, and the pink was also the color of her spirit.
