The main conflict between grandmother and her family was cultural. She adhered to the traditions she'd been raised with, as well as everything her experience had taught her. She loved to search for treasure, things most people considered garbage, and something that grandmother had to hide. She went on expeditions.... treasure hunts with Sek-Lung, something that both embarrassed and appalled her family. None-the-less, Grandmother was adamant and determined to recreate her windchime. The conflict is resolved when they turn their heads and accept that it's not something they're going to change.
