The Jungle

Do you think Sinclair's descriptions of the conditions in the meat - packing plants were exaggerated or sensationalistic? In your opinion, would The Jungle have been as effective if Sinclair had hit the public's "heart" instead of its "stomach"? Explain.

I believe that Sinclair accomplished both. He hit the public's stomach by revealing exactly how their meat was processed and readied for sale. He hit their heart by exposing the plight of the people who labored within the industry and enlightening the public to what could only be defined as their abuse. The focus on working conditions definitely inspired sympathy.
