: The sailors believe they must test the winds before setting out on a voyage. Explain why they test the winds and what the good and bad results reveal about the upcoming voyage. Why are the winds tested?

The test revealed the omens for the voyage, it foretold whether or not the voyage would be profitable. If the test flew well, the cargoes would be entrusted to the chosen ship, which in the case was the Chabi. If the test didn't go well, a rival ship would be used.
