America acts as a place for Amir to bury his memories and a place for Baba to mourn his. In America, there are "homes that made Baba's house in Wazir Akbar Khan look like a servant's hut." What is ironic about this statement? What is the function of irony

The irony in this statement can be found in the fact that Amir and Baba were considered extremely wealthy people in their homeland. They had a beautiful home, servants, and wanted for nothing. None-the-less, their wealth means nothing in America where they themselves are forced to work like the servants they once employed.
