To Amir, this was the perfect day. They would win the kite competition and all would be well. Later Amir will recall this day as a day full of blame. He lets his friend Hassan be raped and humiliated. Amir will blame himself for the rest of the novel. Still, the sky can also be seen as truly blameless because it is unconcerned about the goings on and tragedies that people suffer under it.
