how does hassans death affect amir and how was his death ironic

Amir is devastated by the news of Hassan's death, which is ironic because with all of the guilt Amir carries, he can never redeem himself. It's almost like Hassan suffered two deaths..... one as a child, and one as a man. Yet, he was the only character loyal unto the end.
