How would each character's roles fit in today's society?

This question is very close to how they would relate to Americans. Still I think todays Global society is much smaller than when the Kite Runner took place. I suspect that Baba might have an easier time with communication so much easier. Post 911 would make things difficult for both men. Stereotypes and prejudice would put added stress on them, especially Baba.
