What are some cultural differences between Kabul Circa, in the 70's compared to USA at that same time?

I don't think there would be too much change between Kabul circa 1970's to Kabul circa 2012. Yes, war has been fought there by Western nations but then war has always been fought in Afghanistan. This latest conflict is just one of many wars that define their history. Afghan culture tends to stay the same. Granted there are minor progressions but life stays dominated within the confines of strict Islamic law. The economy does not seem to develop compared to economies in the West. America has certainly gone through change. America's relationship with the Arab world is of great significance. It would take a large book to define the changes but certainly the U.S.A is not the same as in 1970.
