What does Soraya reluctance say about the importance of honor, integrity, and tradition in Afghani culture?

Soraya is not a huge character in this book. She, however, represents a different sort of Afghan woman. She is certainly not traditional. Earlier on we find out that Soraya lived with a man for a month out of wedlock. This brings shame on just about everybody except the man. Soraya deplores the way women are treated by Afghan culture. She finds that honour and integrity are not extended to women. Soraya hates the misogynistic culture that dominates Afghan tradition and culture. She is lucky to have married the very open minded Amir. Soraya is a progressive woman; she is quick to accept Sohrab as family.
