Amir was good at reading, writing, and poetry in school. Classmates wanted Amir on their team for the "Battle of the Poems". Their Farsi teacher moderated the competition. When Amir tells Baba this, he simply says "good". Baba does not value poetry very much. He does not see literature as a "manly" pursuit.
