I have to read this for school. Does the baby represent something. Also why are Paul and Ellen not named till later in the story

I see no refernce to the baby that might be perceived as symbolism.
Because there are only three characters in the story, Paul and Ellen's names aren't pertinent to the story itself.... they could be anyone.
