The legend of sleepy hollow

Irving describes Sleepy Hollow as a secluded and very small glen off of the Tarry Town settlement area. There is a sense of isolation from the rest of the world. Legend and strange folk tales are very much a part of this small town. This adds to the mystery, comedy, and suspense to the story.
