is there a quote in the middle of the book that shows he loves his mom and hates his stepfather and that makes it hard to like his mom as much as he does

Percy is angry at his mother because she won't leave Gabe. She insists upon staying with her husband even if he's abusive, even if he hurts her..... she will not allow Percy to intervene.
