The relationship between Sidi and Lakunle throughout the poems was one of conflict. This was shown were Lakunle wishes to married Sidi but inorder to do so he must pay the bride price. Lakunle refuse to do so because he believes that it is an uncilivized outrageous custom. Lakunle is fed up of the traditionalized principles protrayed in the village, he says it is now time for modernity to take its course. Sidi explained that the village will think that is not a virgin if her bride price is not paid but he still insist on trampling such traditional act. Both characters were persistent in adhering to there beliefs/practices.
