Why did Edmund want to betray the others? Did he think of his actions as betrayal?

Edmund is uptight and rather selfish to begin with. The Turkish Delight and the White witch compel him even more to deceive his brothers and sisters. Edmund isn't evil more than immature. The White Witch is able to manipulate Edmunds week sense of self-worth to her advantage.
