Why might the title, "The Lottery", or the opening description in paragraph one, be considered ironic?

The title of the story, The Lottery, alludes to a prize.... something worth winning, a lucky moment. This is ironic because the "prize" is a death sentence..... it's the last thing anyone in the town wants to be chosen for.
