This quote speaks to identity and sacrifice. Frenchie and his group are not only trying to stay alive, they are fighting to keep their identities. The native heritage is at stake here. The fight seems overwhelming and Frenchie knows that he may not live to see any difference. His life is worth the sacrifice for a greater ideal.
