Gregor's father reacts to his appearaance with anger and tears. As the chief cleark is also present and trying to quickly escape the room, his father observes in horror. After the clerk departs, his father picks up a walking stick, waves it in the air, and stamps his feet to drive Gregor back into his room. When Gregor gets stuck in the doorway to his bedroom, his father pushes him from behind and slams the door behind him.
