The Metamorphosis

Do you have sympathy for Gregor? If so, why and at what times? If not ,why not?

the question is based off the first chapter of the Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

You have to feel sorry for Gregor to some degree.... he's overworked, responsible for everyone, and feels like he's living in a dead end. To become an insect changes his world.... he is no longer significant, no longer needed.... he's a pest.... and often viewed as repulsive. Feeling sorry for him is easy. His thoughts never change.... he still feels for his family, even as an insect. The problem is that no one, except for Grete in this chapter, really seems to care about him, and that's the real tragedy.

The Metamorphosis

I feel bad for gregor, I totally sympathize with him. He as a human used to care about his family and tried his best to provide him. But his family neglected him at the time he needed them the most. It was not his fault that he transformed into a bug and even as a bug in the starting of story he tried his best to get up to go to work even though he was transformed. Imagine the psychological strain and the anxiety he suffered and on the top of it his own family except his sister treated him like a useless, insignificant and repulsive creature. He deserved all the care he gave to his family. Instead he was abandoned and alienated by his own loved ones. The worst part is his own father hurt him which later on caused his death.
