how does gregors family try to make life seem normal for themselves ?

At first, everyone but Grete attempts to pretend that Gregor isn't around. Over time, they all get jobs to support the family, and eventually allow Gregor the opportunity to watch their actions from his room rather than isolating him. Mom performs household chores, Gregor's father falls asleep in his chair, and Grete has a job in addition to furthering her education. Pretty normal lives....
