it is clear from the beginning of part 3 that gregor is dying. Explain how much of his physical decline is his own doing, and how much of it caused by outside factors

Gregor isn't really eating and his family has all but disowned him. Gregor is literally becoming a pest: his past identity extinguished. Gregor's impending death becomes the logical existential conclusion to his angst ridden life.
